Sorry!!!

I’ve been very remiss about posting lately. The book is pretty much done and soon I’ll be be able to share all the gory details with you. As you can see my comedy dates are now posted, and Bryan’s tour is very nearly over. It’s been fun if somewhat hard work, just in terms of schedule…
It’s going to get a lot more interesting around here very shortly, I promise you.
Much love to you all
xx

Thanks for the tour dates. So very tempted to renew my passport and fly to the UK

    Yay Wimborne!
10 minutes down the road for me if I am still living where I am.
No passport or flying required 😉

    Hi Guy,

I’ve seen you in Antwerp with Bryan Ferry and it was awesome !
A little short 15 hour maybe I’m spoiled with the Dg concerts 25 hours but enjoyed every minute of it .
I hope I’m able to see one of your one man shows I would love too.
Are you planing gigs in London or Dublin later this year?

  4. george hartselle - April 11, 2007 5:07 PM

    Guy
Looked at the photo gallery.….can’t help but ask, in the group photo w/D.G., is David Crosby glaring at you, and is that a gun in his boot? Some of us just have the need to know.

If I weren’t so fiscally challenged, I’d be getting a passport, too…and hitching a ride to the UK. Really looking forward to the book!

  6. Guy Pratt - April 11, 2007 11:17 PM

I don’t think he is… I’m pretty sure he didn’t have a gun, but you never know..

  7. STEFANO - April 14, 2007 11:02 AM

    Hy Guy,
In a precedent comment, I’ have ask you a suggest for a name to find to my stingray.….did you remember…?
Don’t worry, I now you are wery busy.
I want to ask you an information too.
I’ve an Ampeg (SVT3-PRO), and because you are my inspiration (since 1987…) now I want to buy a multieffects.
What did you use for istance during “Delicate sound of thunder Tour” and “Division Bell Tour”.
In particular which effects did you use on Money solo 1987 (I suppose an OC2…octaver and what elese?) and on One of these Day during the 1994 Tour.
Sorry for my boring question, but is wery important for me.
Thank’s in advance and.….I’m looking forward to see you for a mini tour in Italy (you can also eat a lot of good food…!)
    Cheers.
    Stefano.

  8. steve - April 15, 2007 5:54 AM

Guy I was curious, did you have any tracks on the movie Hackers?
There is an instrumental song that plays twice on the movie, and it has a killer guitar and bass riffs. I can’t find the tracks on the movie’s soundtrack.
Please let me know if this is or is not you. If so, I want to hear more of that sound, it was cool.
    Thanks,
    Steve

  9. Guy Pratt - April 15, 2007 10:55 PM

    Stefano,
all those questions are answered in my book. I used tons of effects and you’re asking a lot for me to write them all down!
I’ve only ever given one bass a name, I don’t think up names for all of them, so you’re on your own there mate..I’d love to do a tour of Italy but comedy doesn’t travel as well as music..

    Steve
I did do those tracks in Hackers, and the kiiller guitar was supplied by one Mr Gilmour.. Never understood why they weren’t on the soundtrack.

  10. Simon J - April 16, 2007 4:36 PM

    Hey Guy,

I was just wondering if you’ve seen the cover for the upcoming David Gilmour ‘Remember that night’ DVD?

It’s turning out to be a bit of a fantastic DVD.

  11. sonicfrog - April 17, 2007 6:42 AM

I had a Peavey DynaBass named Aldo. I loved that thing; it was my work hoarse. But it got heisted from my house around New Years Eve 2000, while I was at Lego Land. I will never go to Lego Land again!

PS. My other bass, a green five string Yamaha, was also stolen. That one was found in a pawn shop and returned to me three years later, and is now my work hoarse. But damned I still miss Aldo!

PPS. Cliff, y guitarist in San Diego (I live in Fresno but have a band in SD — long story) just got his stolen Charvelle (sp) back after 14 years, so maybe there is still hope for my Aldo.

  12. sonicfrog - April 17, 2007 6:44 AM

Woops, I misspelled horse, though my voice has been a bit hoarse lately 🙂

  13. Guy Pratt - April 17, 2007 1:38 PM

I had my beloved Steinberger L2 stolen years back. It has serial number 712, so if anyone comes across it..

    Guy

  14. Stefano - April 17, 2007 2:38 PM

    Thank’s for your answer Guy,

I’m looking forward to reading your book.
Just another question: what do you usually do during the tour during free-time? In particular: what did you do in Milan last year, during David’s tour?
This is my curiosity because I work as a chartered accountant near the hotel when you stayed during two day of David’s tour in Milan.….sometimes I Think that could be a chance to meet you and speak about your beautiful career.

I Dream.…but now I must return to my work.….tax returns!!!!

    Cheers again

    Stefano.

Hope next year gives you enough time to consider N. America whether it’s comedy or with Brian or both. You have enough on your plate. Glad to see you’re home. Enjoy every minute. Announce the book at David’s blog too, okay?

  18. Simon J - April 18, 2007 4:35 PM

Just noticed your the bass player on Tim Renwicks new album ‘Privateer’.

What’s was it like working with Tim after all these years?

  19. George Mac - April 18, 2007 5:09 PM

    Hi Guy

Had no idea you’d been so busy through the years working on so many albums. Was quite a revelation to be honest. Of course, it couldn’t have been anything else other than hard work that got you to the top.

    Regards

  20. sylvie - April 18, 2007 11:47 PM

Just want to say hello to you! So…hello Guy! sylvie de montréal

  21. Haris Varajic - April 19, 2007 1:37 AM

@Stefano: instead of “all those questions are answered in my book. I used tons of effects and you’re asking a lot for me to write them all down!” — Guy could simply just list all those effects, it would be also much shorter sentence perhaps :))
But don’t you see? Those things can’t be spoken’ ! 🙂 They are “top secrets” of pro musicians…they are priceless for them:) They worth a lot of invested money, equipement
It’s up to us, unimportant fans, to revieled them all by areselves.
But i’ll tell you this: i make my guitar sound best when i forced myself to forgot all influences, and most important, stop tryin’ to sound or PLAY like them. Just play from inside you. Be yourself!
To sound like Guy-you must BE Guy…you must have his fingers, his soul, his feeling for music…that’s mission impossible.…..and anythyng else is…fake…you don’t want to be a fake, a copy…naaah:)
Find for example guy called Jadon Lavik…he has two albums, i found them accidentally…i dont know who played bass on those albums but it sounds brilliant. Way better than many of Guy’s records…hope you will find it enjoyable. Guy is probably the best one but…and i hope he will correct me if i got wrong.
    All the best!
    MisterYES

  22. ag - April 19, 2007 2:46 AM

    Guy,
Sounds like you’re having a blast.

  23. Haris Varajic - April 19, 2007 12:02 PM

@ag: blast?…not indeed, at least it was not intended…the point is: the sound is complicated, complex thing…you can climb on stage and take guitar from Guy’s hand dont worrying about sound settings but it will not sound the same when you start to play…sound in most comes out from person, not from hardware. The effect list is short i am shure but that’s not all that makes it sound like that, and beside that and player there also a whole long line of stage sound engineering and settings for amps, mix-pults, monitors etc…and if Guy want to be a precise, he must list all that and describe in details, and THAT’s not short one i commit :)))

  24. sylvie - April 19, 2007 1:53 PM

Any chance you come for a couple of shows with Mr.Ferry in Canada later on? Really like to shake your hand… Sylvie de Montréal

  25. Simon J - April 19, 2007 4:54 PM

Sorry Guy, gotta post this gag!

Bill and Guy walk into a Café and everybody greets Guy with a warm welcome. Bill says “Crikey, your popular round here!” Guy repies “Oh yeah, I forgot to tell you that I’m the most famous man in the world”

Bill laughs his head off until Guy says “Ok I bet The Prime Minister knows me.” Bill replies “Ok Guy, you’re on”.

So they travel to 10 Downing St and sure enough Guy is let in, and Bill and Guy have a decent chat with Blair about his tour with Bryan Ferry.

Bill is shocked. “Maybe you know him from your past”. Guy replies “Ok, how about the Queen”. Bill looks astonished, but slowly agrees.

Off they go to Buckingham Palace and sure enough, Guy is let in with Bill and they have Tea and Biscuits with The Queen, listening to Dylanesque.

Well now Bill is getting annoyed. “I cant believe this!” Guy looks at him and says “Ok, one last time, lets go to the vatican to meet The Pope.” Bill immediatly agrees, knowing that Guy Pratt could not seriously know the Pope.

Off to Vatican City they go, but there’s a Congregation for the Pope’s Birthday. Tens of Thousands of people are there. Guy instructs Bill to wait outside and Guy will come out on the balcony with his arm around the Pope. After a while, a crowd gathers to hear the Pope speak. And as told by Guy, when the Pope came out, Guy’s arm was around him! Guy looks down from the balcony and see’s Bill passed out on the ground. He rushes down and wakes him up.

Bill! Bill! Wake up!” Bill opens his eyes and says,
“Guy. You’re the most popular man in the world.”
“I told you that, Bill,” says Guy, “but you didn’t faint when I knew the Prime Minister! You didn’t faint when I knew the Queen!”

Well I was shocked that you knew the Pope,” says Bill. “But I just couldn’t take it when the guy next to me tapped me on the shoulder and said “Who’s that up there with Guy!!!”

    Hi Mr Pratt.

This is my first time on your Blog =). You may have seen my name on Mr Gilmour’s blog, as I am a Frequent visitor there.

Anyways, I read the reviews of your show, and It sounds Fantastic. I dont know if you plan on touring it in The States, but hopefully I will be able to see it one Day.
Im Looking forward to reading your Book =)

Calm down mate..It’s nothing to do with secrets I just have a load of effects and it’s tedious writing them all out.

All the people asking if I’m going to tour the states, I’d love to but it depends on my book getting published there..

    I say:

Do we need to grass-roots this thing? Anyone know any book publishers? Do we need to gnaw on the various book-seller websites with queries as to availability so they might look askance at book publishers?

In short, anything we can do to grease a few wheels for you, good sir?

  31. lorraine - April 21, 2007 1:39 PM

Any particular reason Mr Ferry’s Orchestra weren’t allowed in Jonathan Ross’s green room last night, are you all that badly behaved? Is that why Mr Ferry’s chair was empty from time to time as he had to put you all on the naughty step?

Cracking performance though, Love Is The Drug was always my favourite Roxy Music song, made all the better by seeing your good self performing. Although, Mr Ferry’s Bryan Ferry impersonation at the end was a classic.

  32. Paul Sexton - April 21, 2007 2:28 PM

    Hi Guy,
I got Tim Renwicks new album which is really good, will he tour?
    Paul

  33. Karen - April 23, 2007 7:41 AM

    Hello Mr Pratt,

Nice to see you back, I have also been off ’ touring ’ the local hospital for 5 days, now got 4 weeks of recovery, pity I don’t have a book now to occupy myself.

Anyway if your tour does end up including oz, I’m sure I can round up a few to catch you.

    Karen.

  34. Karen - April 23, 2007 7:48 AM

Forgot to put smiley face at end of first sentence, I know how these things can be miss read. ;O)

  35. Jerzy Mike - April 23, 2007 7:19 PM

    Guy,

As for blokes who want to learn your equipment list to endevour to play like you, perhaps you should just fess up. Tell them your real trade secret: you tie your nuts in a knot prior to walking on stage.

(that wasn’t supposed to be a secret was it?)

  36. AxPxM88 - April 24, 2007 4:58 AM

Guy, Is it possible for us that live in The States to purchase your book from an Online UK dealer and have it shipped?

  37. Phoenix - April 24, 2007 6:13 AM

Ax, I do that with Amazon’s UK site alla time. As long as they don’t have shipping restrictions on it (as they do for certain electronics due to power-conversion issues). Bear in mind, tho, the shipping costs are pretty awful.

It also won’t help convince US-based booksellers and such that there’s local interest if everyone bought it already from the UK (and if US interest = US tour…)

    Just some food for thought.

    Nix.

  38. AxPxM88 - April 24, 2007 6:34 AM

    Thank Nix…

I am definately going to make sure I can do my part to try to Have Mr. Pratt’s book sold here. But if not, that would be a backup…

  44. Roland - April 29, 2007 8:48 PM

    Guy,

    Random question for you.

I always found it interesting that Rachel Fury and Scott Page were the only band members from the 1989 Another Lapse tour that didn’t return for the Division Bell tour in 1994.

I remember hearing that Scott Page turned up in the audience at least once during David’s 2006 tour (with the mullet, of course), but was wondering what ever happened to Rachel. Did she leave the business?

  45. Guy Pratt - April 30, 2007 2:21 PM

Scott turned up in LA, I’d love to know what happened to Rachel..

  46. Adrian - May 1, 2007 8:12 PM

    Hi Guy,
Good luck with your book I’m sure it will be a hit and I can’t wait to read it!

I was lucky to see Pink Floyd at the Château de Chantilly, France on the 30th July 1994. It still remains to this day the greatest concert I ever went to… and I’ve been lucky to see some great ones.

    Best wishes

Just excited at the thought of reading your book, when will it be available? If you get anywhere near Portland, CT (Near Hartford, CT) I’d love to hear from you. Sounds like things are moving along cheerfully for you — Glad to hear that.
All is smiles on our end!
    Fondly,

    Guy,
This is to let you know I reviewed your book on Amazon.com, although I haven’t read it and they have no copies. There is a space for comments which is what I did. I guess that makes me a bird dog in the case of future U.S. sales. Send my check to Alabama. Ever hear of it?

oops.….THE BOOK is no longer listed on Amazon, which makes my well thoughtout comments on it moot. I did however find your last book, “Let’s Bind A Book.”

Just saw the cover on your home page: Did you design the front page yourself? Its very stylish. Personally as a Marketing Advisor (Ahem!) I think it’s very marketable. It catches the eye. So many great bands, all combined with a certain talent! I wonder who that is!

Well, I’ve been drinking for four hours now, it was my last lecture today Pratt fans. I’m officially a free man.……

    World.….…..

    LOOK OUT!!!!

(Mind you, I’ve got to look for sex now, before it was on my doorstep)

I love how not even the band members know what happened to Rachel. She just dropped off the face of the earth or something… sad…
