The show goes on…

Hi all, I have a break from Fery duties for the next few weeks so I can take my show and book around the country. It’s been good fun so far, apart from the woman in Chester who shouted “He’s dead!” When I mentioned Robert Palmer. How thoughtful.
Book seems to be going down very well, and thank you to everyone for your comments.
If you’re coming to a show, I’ll see you there.
Cheers

That woman was obviously missing that little filter thing that should exist between her brain and mouth 😉

I’m glad the tour is going well. I have your book but am not reading it until I’ve seen you live. That’s ‘live’ as in ‘gig’ not ‘live’ as in ‘continue to not be dead’ 🙂

See you next week in Wimborne 🙂

  2. Spider - June 19, 2007 10:34 AM

I have seen a little part of the show on Youtube (5 min)… It seems really great! I want to go in England to see the entire show! I really like your David Bowie imitation Mr Pratt!

    Show must go on!

  3. Kevin - June 19, 2007 11:36 AM

Was looking forward to the Wycombe show. We have tickets for the rearranged date. Do you mention The Smiths? I am reading ‘Morrissey / Marr — The Severed Alliance’ by Johnny Rogan where you get a mention for learning Andy Rourke’s bass parts…

  4. Thomas O'Connell - June 19, 2007 3:50 PM

I hear that Bryan Ferry will be on the David Letterman show on the 26th of June. I was wondering will you be playing with him for this event or will it be the house band backing him up?
    Thomas

  5. Martyn - June 19, 2007 6:13 PM

Thanks for a great show in Liverpool, Guy. Sat up most of the night when I got home and read the book in a mildly drunk stupor. Laugh out loud funny in many parts, so I’ll have to read it again, I think! Loved your Coverdale impression.

    Cheers,

    Martyn

PS Bootle DVD is in the post, although after reading the book I was very tempted to edit “Superstition” out of it!

PPS They’re funny like that in Chester!

Maybe there is a chance for me to come in London soon, as bass player in my brother’s band who is now in promoting his album around 🙂
I hope Guy will dont mind if i place few links here to…maybe some interesting contacts comes out of it, some new musicals experiences (as i can see there is a lot of musicians visiting this blog).
    So here hey are;

…however…if by some luck your’s show take place in same time as our visiting (dont know exact date now but…) I will try to be there…will try to find more info at tour date site at firts.
I will also send e‑mail to you Guy, when come there, with info (as soon as i get details) about the our gig too. I know you bussy as hell, but maybe…maybe…at the moment of the our gig, destiny will interfear and our roads will intervein. Maybe you find youself near and choose to come and hear us play 😉

    All the best!

Yep. Just joined a new band. Have a show 2nite. Have 30 sum-odd songs to learn.… and yesterday I have the good fortune of cutting my middle fret finger whilst opening a can of food for the dog. It bled quite nicely thank you Iams. God what a klutz!

Still gonna play though. What’s a little blood and pain anyway.

    Hi Guy

The book is brillliant. I’m disappointed that I’ve finished it already — we need volume 2!

I agree with Paul. You need to get over to N. Ireland with the show. If you need any help or contacts to make it happen, email me and I’ll see what I can do.

  14. Werner - June 24, 2007 3:41 PM

    Hi Guy.

I read the book and must say its really great and of course very funny. and í cant even get all the jokes because my main language is german!! a lot of informations of course for floydfans as well!

i wanted to ask you: will there be some translation into different languages in the future? and is it possible to send you some questions for a kind of interview for my website?

    bye from austria

  15. Karen - June 25, 2007 7:01 AM

Sticker on back of car, I was behind on way to work this morning.

Like most musicians, you are following a bass player.

  16. George Gipe - June 27, 2007 1:33 PM

I usually watch Letterman, when they announced Bryan Ferry, I wondered if you would be there. I said to my wife…Guy’s gonna get this show going! Oh well, enjoyed hearing something from the Dylanesque release.

  17. Spider - June 27, 2007 7:21 PM

    Hi everybody!!!

I’m very happy because I have gone to my book shop yesterday and the woman has said that “My bass and other animals” will be there at the end of July! In English but I don’t care, I will read it!

  18. NANCE STEELE - June 29, 2007 6:31 AM

    Greetings Guy,
I’m so‑o excited for you.… Your book is finally out after a lot of work on your part I’m sure and everyone seems to be ranting, raving and drooling over it .…. Not a wee bit surprised!
Amazon in the US doesn’t seem to have it yet, can you enlighten me (And others) as to where one might obtain a copy stateside? Let your publisher know we want it on our side of the pond as well please!
Hi to eveyone over there — Smiling your way,
    Nance

  19. Thomas O'Connell - June 30, 2007 10:38 AM

Well Guy I watched the new Bryan Ferry DVD and it was great seeing you playing on it. I bet you do enjoy working with another great artist like Bryan Ferry. Plus the musicians that are on the dvd playing with Bryan Ferry are really good. I hope that you can
get away from playing music and come to the states to perform your comic shows. But don’t hurry for you are playing with the real Icons of music .
    Have a good weekend
    Thomas

PS Now wouldn’t it be great to perform with BB KIng next.

  20. Phil and Heather - June 30, 2007 1:43 PM

    Hello Guy

  21. Phil and Heather - June 30, 2007 1:51 PM

The Kingston book signing was a lovely surprise, we still crack up whenever we hear Money and Us and Them. The show at Chelsea was brilliant we particularly enjoyed the verbal/visual sketch of Earls Court-you did such a good job we could even picture poor Richard Wright on the stage with you . The whole evening was so funny we’re still laughing now and continue to do so whenever we pick up the book. Sorry about the earlier posting. First time ever and my fingers were nervous. Thank you Guy.

  22. Dave Sugarbeet - July 1, 2007 8:49 AM

Hello Guy. I had an absolutely cracking time at the show in Windsor last night — stayed up till 2.30 reading the damn book too! And then I discovered, in the interesting bit at the end, that you’ve got a ’51 Precision. My dream bass — want to sell me the pup? No? Oh well . .
Thanks again for a great night, and don’t forget . .
    You rock! (Duuuuude)

  23. Bridgey - July 3, 2007 10:40 AM

Happened upon your book in HMV Oxford last Saturday — I’m about half way through now — really enjoying it. It’s love how you seem to speak about your fellow musicians from a fans point of view! Makes it feel like I’m sitting accross the dinner table from a mate listening to his funny stories.

Great book (so far) — congratulations.

    Best wishes,
    Alex.

  24. Bridgey - July 5, 2007 3:15 PM

Finished it — the rock n roll stories mature into full on, legendary, hilarious epics as the book unwinds.

    f***ing good read!

    Alex.

  25. Nate - July 6, 2007 11:08 PM

Overseas people can order the book from Amazon.co.uk

  26. Genevieve - July 10, 2007 6:49 PM

    Hi,
I still wonder if you’ll be with Brian Ferry in Brittany, July 1st ?
I can’t go to England for your show for the moment, but Ill’ be glad to see you at this festival.

  27. Guy Pratt - July 10, 2007 11:58 PM

    Genevieve
    I will indeed..

  28. Genevieve - July 11, 2007 4:50 PM

Ok, I ‘ll get ticket right now,
Hope Ill’ be able to ask you to write nice thing on your book !

This town is famous here for it’s local beer, called Correff, delicious amber beer…
and if you get enought time around there are very nice places, like my local.

  29. Bill - July 12, 2007 10:02 PM

    Hi Guy
Just wanted to say how much I am enjoying the book. As a bass player (not a very good one as you will hear if you visit the site of my band) I can relate to a lot of it. You write with a warmth and wit sadly lacking in most music biographies and I’m forever envious that you have met and played with my hero David Bowie.

Good luck with the tour and future bass excursions.

    Cheers

    Bill

  30. Christopher - July 15, 2007 7:49 AM

    Hi Ho Guy,

Cracking great read indeed Guy. Thoroughly enjoyed every page of it as both a Floyd fan and a music fan. I particularly enjoyed your honest approach in basically everything.

Like Nick Mason’s Inside Out, you not only have something worth saying, but you really know how to tell a story as well. I can only hope that you bring your live show to Australia as I can only assume it is also a great performance.

The other thing I thought important is that, despite not being familiar with a few of the people you talk about, you made it interesting to read about, and I wanted to hear the music you were discussing … an important thing when it comes to reading about music.

Lastly, cheers for my particular copy of the book. I was lucky enough to win it through Matt John’s Brain Damage and you were nice enough to give it your personal touch, so cheers indeed for that.

Thanks for sharing part of yourself with us.

    Rock On
    Christopher

  31. Genevieve - July 17, 2007 4:31 PM

    Hi,

I’ll get my pass for Les Vieilles Charrues, festival in Britanny soon,
Do you think it will be possible to meet, “ ‘au point presse” or any other place before or after your show ?
    Thanks

  32. Guy Pratt - July 18, 2007 3:26 PM

    Genevieve
Maybe, give me your number..If you post it I’ll get it then delete it..

  33. Genevieve - July 19, 2007 6:18 PM

  35. Karen - July 20, 2007 8:11 AM

Well if we don’t hear from Genevieve again.

  36. Paul Sexton - July 20, 2007 8:24 PM

  37. Guy Pratt - July 21, 2007 12:50 AM

    Anyone seen Hostel 2?.….

  38. Paul Sexton - July 21, 2007 11:20 AM

Look out Karen!!, you could be next…

  39. Thomas - July 21, 2007 1:44 PM

Guy I noticed you were using a electric stand-up bass while performing a song with David Gilmour at the Abby Road Sessions. I was wondering if you have or ever played the old style acoustic stand-up bass while playing with others groups. If so what kind and make is it. I myself have an old spanish style 1951 stand-up bass which I love to play the blues and jazz with while out on the road. Plus I love playing it while recording. For it just gives you that real funky and raw sound that the blues and of course the early jazz sound has and is all about.
    Thomas

  40. Karen - July 21, 2007 2:40 PM

ok, remind me, if Mr Pratt comes to Australia, for me to never meet up.

  41. Guy Pratt - July 21, 2007 10:39 PM

    Thomas
I don’t have a normal double bass, just my 1956 Framus and a Ned Steinberger I got this year which is fab, but I do have a Bass Balalaika…

  42. genevieve - July 22, 2007 9:06 AM

    So, I’m still alive.
Mr Pratt is a very nice man.

  43. Paul Sexton - July 22, 2007 4:04 PM

Quiet fella, keeps himself to himself.……

  44. Veronica_from_Miami - July 22, 2007 8:47 PM

Hi Guy, I don’t know why I never thought of visiting your site and to send you a BIG Thank you for your famous t‑shirt and your book – late is better than never, I guess.

The book is an interesting read, by the way.

Hope to see your show here in the U.S.

    Thanks again.

  45. Guy Pratt - July 22, 2007 10:48 PM

Interesting??? INTERESTING!!!???? Is that all??? It’s meant to be funny!!!!

  46. Tara - July 23, 2007 2:44 AM

Guy, absolutely LOVED the book. I’m getting ready to read it for the second time, it’s just that good. Any word on bringing the show to the U.S.?

  47. Phoenix - July 23, 2007 3:13 AM

It’s very funny. Now that I’m done rereading the first 6 Harry Potter novels and devouring the last, I can get back to it properly. I can tell you now that the book ought to have a drink warning on it… as in ‘don’t drink anything whilst reading it unless you want to snort said drink out your nose when you start laughing at certain bits’. Very unsanitary and you might get the stuff on the book. Thankfully have avoided that thus far, but I haven’t finished it yet.

As a complete aside, might as well ask the obvious question, since I don’t believe it’s been addressed here or on DG’s blog yet… will you be performing with him at the DVD thing on 6 September?

    Cheers,
    Nix.

  48. Guy Pratt - July 23, 2007 11:53 PM

No, but hopefully will be there
