The Daily Show with Jon Stewart

Christ you lot got on it quickly…Who watches the above mentioned show? I’m addicted, it’s the most intelligent and politically aware(Apart from the old West Wing of course)TV show ever, and may well save democracy in the USA. We get last nights show over here, and their appraisal of the new Iraq strategy was just spot on and hilarious even though it’s tragic.
I’m so chuffed so many of you stopped by.I am doing all I can to get a US tour of my show, but I need to get my book published over there to make it happen. Write to Borders and say you want my book!!!
Love to you all
xx
Guy

I tend to find The Daily Show (and its spinoff The Colbert Report) to be more accurate and proper for the events than real news outlets. And much more satisfying for the soul. Sometimes… all you can do is laugh.

It sure as hell beats worrying… altough I do that too. Counting down the days of the Shrub’s régime, woohoo!

    Nix.

  2. Melissa - January 13, 2007 6:49 AM

I’m on the computer way too much to watch that show.

But hey, my fingers get a work out. So I really aint lazy. aye?

    Typing ya know?
    Melissa(*_*)

  3. Phoenix - January 13, 2007 7:37 AM

Sure, Mel. Typing. Uh huh. *wink wink, nudge nudge*

And why wouldn’t we stop by, Guy? Some of us have been fans since a certain bassist started dancing on stage during the Money solo in the Delicate Sound of Thunder video. Or maybe that’s just me, I dunno. LOL!

    Cheers, mate.

    Nix.

  4. Nate - January 13, 2007 2:40 PM

Yes, ‘Nix that’s where I first saw Guy too and as I said earlier, would see him popping up with other bands from then on too.

I do watch The Daily Show when I catch it on More4 (I’m in the UK Guy).

I also like a web show called ‘The Show’ hosted by Ze Frank. The content is really off the wall but has sensible political comment on worldwide topics thrown in for good measure.

  5. Paul Sexton - January 13, 2007 3:59 PM

Anything is better than Soapstar superstar!!!!! how bad can it get?

  6. George Gipe - January 13, 2007 7:43 PM

I watch the Daily Show EVERY night. It’s rare to come across a show that constantly says exactly what I am thinking about the goings on in politics here in the States. It’s funny, and as you said, spot on.

Sometimes the guests are a bit dry…the only thing worse than politics is the people who write poitical books…and they all end up as guests. But the first half of the show, and the “Moment of Zen” is priceless.

    Off to pester Borders…

    George

    Morning Sir,

Nice to see you back, nice to know someone has seen some sun, seems summer has forgotten where Australia is this year.

I am a watcher of above mentioned show and a must see is a little Australian show called ’ The Chaser ’ absolutely hilarious satirical take on the week’s news and current affairs.

    Karen.

  9. Renee B. - January 16, 2007 5:54 AM

Daily show is a great show. It makes me laugh everytime I see it. The show I saw today included congress giving their props for the BCS championship college game. Nothing is more hilarious than trying to see a congressperson try and rap. Maybe we have some future Snoops in the house !!! HAHA
Don’t worry Nix, I like the dancing too. A little hypnotic.

    Well good night to all

  10. Roland - January 17, 2007 6:53 AM

Apologies if I’ve missed it somewhere, but does the book have a working title yet?

Here’s one vote for including Boston as a stop if you end up bringing the show to the US! If you do, be sure to allocate ample time for a pub crawl and associated recovery (despite our 12:30am last call).

  11. Guy Pratt - January 17, 2007 3:30 PM

The book is called ‘My Bass and other animals’, like the show..

Hi Guy, Happy New Year, Belated Happy Birthday, right now i’ve got all those out of the way I can start being rude! Only jesting Sir.
I havn’t got any suggestions for subjects for discussion but here’s an amusing little tale I heard recently:
The Pilot of a small single engined Cessna was waiting to taxi to the active runway at Gatwick and was told by Air Traffic Control to “Wait at holding point ‘Charlie’ until the United Airlines Boeing has cleared the taxi way”. As the United Airlines heavy trundled past the holding point the Pilot came over the radio frequency “Ah thats a pretty little aircraft. Did you make it yourself!” Not to be out done by this elitist jibe, the Cessna pilot retorted immediately with ” Yes. I’ve made it out of old Boeing parts. Another landing like that and I will finish the other one in the garage!”
    See ya all.

Happy belated B,day. Keep working on that US tour. I’m trying to get all my musician/bass friends aware of the book coming out.
I am working with a drummer friend that remembers you from TuesdayNight music club in the early days, who went on to play with Sheryl Crow for a while. Lots of weird stuff back then from the stories I’ve heard.

    Cheers
    RM

  18. Karen - January 22, 2007 12:15 PM

    Hey Sir,

Heard you’re an Arsenal supporter. The guys I work with are all supporters of the English football, so I have picked a team to fit in, I have picked Arsenal. So now we can talk football.

    Karen.

  19. Guy Pratt - January 23, 2007 10:54 AM

I am indeed a ‘Gooner’ as we’re known. But I have moral problem with football, it repersents everything that’s crass and greedy about modern society..

  20. Paul Sexton - January 23, 2007 11:27 AM

Very true Guy, few play for the Shirt any more!

  21. Karen - January 23, 2007 11:54 AM

By that do you mean feeling betrayed by greedy players and just plain lack of love of the game and increasing penetration of business money and processes?

    Um, sounding somewhat familiar.

  22. Guy Pratt - January 24, 2007 9:09 PM

    Pretty much..

  23. Julian - January 26, 2007 9:26 AM

Hi Guy. I am a very low hours PPL. Can only do it spasmodically as time and funds compete with things in the house and other priorities as listed by my brilliant wife! She still giggles at some of your stories we witnessed at your show in November.

Looking forward to seeing the book.

    Cheers

  24. EchoesBob - January 26, 2007 6:01 PM

    How goes the book, Guy?

I was wondering if you know if Rick has an album project in the works? Please let him know that we’re eager to hear from him. If I’m being nosey, then smack me..

    Take care.

  25. Julian - January 28, 2007 4:51 PM

A little tale to lighten up your weekend.

A young lady with hair of indeterminate colour (so as not to offend the blondes among you!) was sitting in club class on a 747 taking off from Heathrow bound for Sydney, Australia with a fuel stop in Dehli. After the “fasten your seat belts” sign went out and the stewardesses were busy getting the first meal of the flight to all the passengers, our young lady vacated her seat and walked to first class and sat herself down. The stewardess looking after first class asked her to move back to club class. The lady said she was going to stay there all the way to Sydney and there was nothing she could do about it! The stewardess reported this to the head Steward who when he tackled the lady got the same reaction. The same thing happened to the 1st officer and so it was up to the Captain to deal with. He said “I was married to a lady like this once, I speak their language”. He went down to the first class cabin and whispered in her ear. All the stewardess’s and stewards were peering around the corner to see what was happening. Suddenly the young woman got up and went back to her seat in club class. When the captain got back to the flight deck the 1st officer asked him what he had said, ” Oh I just told her that the front end of the aeroplane wasn’t going any furhther than Dehli!”

  26. Paul Sexton - January 29, 2007 10:51 PM

Why wasn’t it going any further than Dehli?

  27. Karen - January 29, 2007 11:37 PM

Being a blonde, living in Sydney, makes sense to me.

  28. Paul Sexton - January 30, 2007 1:21 PM

didn’t really think anybody would bite.….always one 🙂

  29. Guy Pratt - January 30, 2007 5:27 PM

    Now now you lot..

  30. Paul Sexton - January 30, 2007 6:20 PM

    Sorry about that Karen

    Peace&Love, Paul

  31. Phoenix - January 30, 2007 8:43 PM

Being a natural blonde (and thus, dyeing my hair red counts as ‘artificial intelligence’), I found it terribly amusing. 🙂

    Your mileage may vary.

    nix.

    Very smart shows!!!

  35. Tomasz - February 2, 2007 10:12 AM

    Hello,

I drop here nearly everyday, but this TV programme is not available in Poland, so I can’t have any opinion. Although Polish troops are in Iraq but it is not a big topic here. more attention is paid only when Polish soldier is killed or injured.
All the best with your book and both tours.
    Looking forward for another topics.

  36. sonicfrog - February 10, 2007 6:26 PM

    Hey All:

    Sonicfrog here.

Guy, did you play on TNMC? I only remember Dan Schwartz on the liners. But even if you didn’t, you guys had a “six degrees of Kevin Gilbert” thing going on. Wish he was still with us. All my favorite artists seem to end up working together. Hmmm, guess now I’ll have to google David Baerwald and Bill Botrell and see what the’ve been up to lately.

  37. chantelle - February 23, 2007 5:45 PM

I only watched it as it was on after the ‘Live from Abbey Road’ thingy and I couldn’t be bothered moving myself to change the channel but yes it was really quite excellent.

The first time I’ve been here and was just wondering if there will be a dvd of the bass and animals tour?

    Thanks
